Could i love this poem any more than I do? No, I don't believe that I could. What a great way to think of lonliness! I will try to remember this on the "those" days when the sadness and lonliness take over. Thank you for sharing.

And thank you for reading me. I came upon this after some sad days, and it just popped unto my mind. Like when you wake up suddenly at three AM and say-?Aha! I have it.?

Is it the desire to be alone or pure loneliness? If you like the peace and quiet of solitude, then it's a powerful retreat. but if you crave the sound and touch of another human, but you are left to yourself, it can be very painful and destructive.
Hugs, Carol

Thanks, Carol. I do understand both. But I meant this as a salve for the harder times. For me, it helps.

If you like yourself that is. I remember being lonely as a child because l was painfully shy. I didn't like that part of myself...lucky l hsd a supportive family. This is a great contest entry...best of luck.

Yes, one shoukd try to accept oneself, love oneself. Only then is it easier to live and love.
    Thanks,

I like it a lot too, and it does contain wisdom with the self-acceptance implicit, and the way of turning what could be perceived as a negative state or attribute into a positive experience. Well said.

I wonder if that's true? And these days, next to God, nah! My best friend next to Him, is clearly my wife, and I have a couple of really good Christian friends. In my former days I would classify myself as my greatest enemy, and therefore my family's. But I know this is.very clever humour, great post Doug, blessings Roy

No, a haiku it is not. But that doesn't matter. It's a compelling two line poem. Yes, you're with your best friend, but loneliness is rather sad whereas being alone can be a very positive experience.
I liked your poem very much. Ulla:)))

This would have been good for the two line poem contest if their isn't asyllable requirement. I completely agree with your point of being with your best friend but the flip side is also true, we can be our worst enemy with thoughts that can spiral out control. Thanks for sharing your twist on the two line poem you're sharing

Some of the most deep, probing thoughts and realizations have occurred when I spent the valuable time that was only available when I was totally alone. So yes, alone time is quite possibly the very best time of all.

A beautiful poem. You have expressed so much in so few words. Very deep. Loneliness is indeed my best friend. Wishing you the very best in your future endeavours.
With kind regards

    Thank you so much.
And never give up on your writing. One day you may be surprised. I joined in the fall of 2009. And, much to my surprise, I have been accepted for publication.

I liked this message. I don't think it would be true in my case, because I don't really like myself that much, but I think it's great if it applies to you. I don't think it's a traditional haiku, but there are variations with which I'm not familiar. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
